Entry week 1:

For this entry, I decided to draw a picture of what this article meant to me. In which relates a little bit to my dads story growing up. My father was born in Montana on the fields where his family worked. He was a child of 11 and was the youngest one of the family. My father's family originally grew up in a small town named Eagle Pass, Texas which is less than a mile away from the Mexico border. Down south of Texas there was no jobs that they could legally work for at a young age so his whole family would drive up north to work on the fields. They picked cabbage and other vegetables while not getting paid very well. My father had to drop out of high school in the 10th grade because my grandmother needed help paying for the bills of his sister who was 2 years older than him that has down syndrome. Doctors bills were expensive and each sibling felt the need to contribute.
After reading the article, I made other connections through my father because it talked about people of different cultures being taken advantage of because they were clueless to the English language. My father said he wasn't taught the language in school and they we not very diverse. In my opinion one of the hardest ones to learn with all the different context and spelling. It talked about culture not being as important as it should be in our education system. I believe that we should incorporate all cultures and learn a little more about our students and their families traditions and language. If people understood different perspectives and cultures, the world would be a better place.

"Multicultural education is a process of comprehensive school reform. It challenges and rejects racism and other forms of discrimination in schools and society an accepts pluralism. Multicultural education is a process."
